Consumer body New Nicotine Alliance (NNA) has published a guide on responding to the government consultation on its vape tax proposals.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced plans to introduce an excise duty on vaping products in his Spring budget in March, to ‘discourage non-smokers from taking up vaping’. It is expected to raise up to £445 million in revenue per year.

The public consultation seeking views on the proposals for the design and implementation of the new UK-wide Vaping Products Duty is now underway, and will close on 29 May.

The consultation document states that users of stronger liquids (≥11mg/ml) will face a 143 per cent price increase. Weaker liquids (<11mg/ml) will go up by 98 per cent, and nicotine-free liquids by 48 per cent.

“It is vital that as many consumers and supporters of vaping as a harm reduction tool make their view known by responding to the government’s public consultation by the closing date of 29 May,” the NNA said.

The guide can be viewed here.

NNA has last month launched the NoVapeTax website, as part of its campaign against the proposed tax. Nicotine consumers are urged to share their stories about how this tax will impact them and these will be published on the website.
