Vaping manufacturers are focusing research on further improving the safety of products, an international industry conference has heard.

John Dunne, director of the UK Vaping Industry Association, told Vape Business: “The big focus on manufacturers of devices is to make them as safe as possible.”

The UKVIA attended an international conference between e-cigarette manufacturers and trade bodies for the vaping industry last December. Organisations from France, Germany, USA, Korea and Malaysia were present at the event hosted by the Chinese Electronics Chamber of Commerce.

Dunne said: “A lot of the manufacturers are looking at heating mechanisms and heating elements that would reduce the contamination from solder and metal coils. They’re looking at ceramics and all different things to make those devices safer. They’re looking at ways that they can control the amount of nicotine you would get and make each puff consistent. There is a huge focus on consumer safety.”

The trade bodies in attendance also agreed to create a “world alliance” which will share best practice and market industry in the future.
